Q: I recently got a new classification at a sanctioned tournament in Iowa. Why isn't this reflected on USA Fencing's site?
A: There are several possible reasons:
Q: Where can I fence?
A: See the Clubs page, which has a map and list of USA Fencing member clubs in Iowa. There are a few other fencing groups that are not USA Fencing member clubs.
Q: What does it mean to be a USA Fencing member club? Why would a club want to be a member of the national organization?
A: USA Fencing member clubs tend to be geared toward Olympic-style sport fencing (as opposed to classical or historical fencing, stage fencing, or SCA-type swordplay). In addition to promoting fencing locally, member clubs also support the sport on the national and international levels.
USA Fencing provides many resources for athletes, coaches, and tournament officials, as well as insurance options and a variety of tools to help clubs organize and grow. Member clubs also adhere to USA Fencing's SafeSport policies, which aim to prevent misconduct and increase safety. In the Iowa Division, sanctioned tournaments are usually hosted through member clubs.
Q: My question isn't answered here! Who can I ask?
A: Any Board member would be happy to answer your question. See the Contact page.
A: There are several possible reasons:
- The organizer of the tournament hasn't submitted the classification changes to USA Fencing.
- USA Fencing hasn't finished processing the classification changes.
